Radio Communications

When using VHF radios, use Channel 16 as the calling channel to initiate communications.

Boats with INMARSAT receivers and IBM compatible computers can access 24-hour coverage by contacting Ocean Satellite.

If you have a foreign cell phone that has not worked in the BVI, it will work if you dial 767 or 911.
Ask for Fire & Rescue and tell them you need VISAR's assistance.

DIVING EMERGENCIES

1. Call on VHF Ch 16 - "Nearest dive boat, we have a diving accident". State location, boat name and problem. If no immediate response,

Telephone Communications

The BVI through its three communications carriers boasts an array of services that visitors and residents will find indispensable. Cable & Wireless, CCT Global Communications and more recently Digicel, provide competitive roaming rates as well as convenient prepaid connections. Wireless broadband is also available through Cable & Wireless and CCT Global.

To call the BVI the local seven digit telephone number is prefixed by area code (284), while for the USVI and Puerto Rico the area codes are (340) and (787) respectively. Please be aware that U.S. 800 numbers are charged at normal overseas rates when calling from the BVI.
